One of the most popular uses for BOTOX® Cosmetic is treatment for glabellar lines, commonly known as “frown lines.” Frown lines and furrows between the brow can make one appear consistently angry, stressed, or tired, ultimately having an effect on overall facial aesthetics. In what is often called a “BOTOX® Brow Lift,” BOTOX® injections can temporarily prevent the underlying muscles that cause frown lines to develop from contracting, which can ultimately diminish their appearance and produce smoother skin in the area. While BOTOX® injections can be ideal for this particular concern, it’s important to understand that there are several distinctions between BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment and a surgical brow lift procedure that can make one option more ideal than the other.
In addition to frown lines, BOTOX® Cosmetic can reduce signs of crow’s feet and creases that have formed along the forehead. This non-surgical treatment can be a good alternative for patients who would like to enhance these areas and achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance. With this in mind, BOTOX® Cosmetic cannot address a descended brow or eliminate tissue that is sagging over the eyes, and the results of BOTOX® Cosmetic will only last for about three to four months before a re-treatment is necessary to keep the effects going. Brow lift surgery, also known as “forehead lift,” can lift a sagging brow to a higher position and significantly diminish the appearance of fine lines and creases along the forehead. This procedure can create results that last for several years; however, since it is a surgical treatment, it will require a recovery period.
